Colour, aroma and taste:

An intense and shiny lemon color reveals Rhine Riesling, because it is one of the few wines that have an intense color already new.

On the nose it is still slightly retained, as Rhine Riesling needs more time to develop its elements.

Delicate aroma of fresh Rhine wine 2016 reminds us of lemon, orange peel and pineapple. Typical notes of petroleum are not yet detected, but will develop over time.

Sophisticated and harmonious taste, with a well-rounded body and just the right residue of unrefined sugar to balance the playful acidity of Rhine Riesling, middle bodied and with a delicious aftertaste that is complemented by the aroma after several months of maturing with the "sur lie" method.

Undoubtedly, the king among wines, as Rhine Riesling is (rightfully) called

Production method

Soil:

Diverse geological structure composed mainly of gravel and clay with a layer of marl usually covering the lower layers. The vineyards are spread over the finest winegrowing sites in the hills around the town of Ptuj. Grapes are cultivated in an environmentally friendly manner, the so called integrated cultivation, under the careful supervision of the agronomic counselling service and the oenologists of the Ptuj Wine Cellar. The vines are trained in the double »guyot« pruning.

Harvest:

Year 2016 could be called the year of natural disasters. Early and warm spring has raised false hopes for the harvest with many hours of sunshine, as in the last days of April a considerable part of vineyards were damaged by frost. Steep and higher altitude positions, representing the majority of positions from where Ptuj Wine Cellar produces its grapes, avoided the frost for the most part due to their positions. As expected, we began harvesting in the second half of September and thanks to the dry and warm autumn the grapes matured nicely. A lot of different positions brought each variety a great diversity in aromatics and offered the potential for a typical Styrian vintage of beautiful quality.

Winemaking:

Wine is made from previously selected grapes and only from certain positions which have the best habitat for Rhine Riesling. Optimally ripe and overripe grapes continued their path from juice must and wine under the conditions of protective technology, all the way to the bottle, which has enabled us to maintain the typical features of Rhine Riesling and offer you only the most – distinctively varietal aromatics and rich taste of this King among wines.
